Manufacturing & Production – At GATE School we try to come up with articles which can prove to be beneficial to GATE aspirants. Hence,This article is focused on the subject of Manufacturing & Production Engineering. So, In this article we will discuss the syllabus for Manufacturing & Production Engineering. Also, important topics and the resources
Furthermore, a quick look at the Manufacturing & Production syllabus
-
Engineering Materials:
Structure and properties of engineering materials. phase diagrams, heat treatment, stress-. strain diagrams for engineering materials.
-
Casting, Forming and Joining Processes:
So, Different types of castings, design of patterns, moulds and cores. solidification and cooling. riser and gating design. Plastic deformation and yield criteria. fundamentals of hot and cold working processes. load estimation for bulk (forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing) sheet (shearing, deep drawing, bending) metal forming processes. principles of powder metallurgy. Principles of welding, brazing, soldering and adhesive bonding.
-
Machining and Machine Tool Operations:
So. It consists of geometry and materials, tool life and wear; economics of machining; principles of non-traditional machining processes; principles of work holding, design of jigs and fixtures.
-
Metro logy and Inspection:
Also, linear and angular measurements; compactors.gauge design; interferometry. form and finish measurement; alignment and testing methods; tolerance analysis in manufacturing and assembly.
-
Computer Integrated Manufacturing:
Basic concepts of CAD/CAM and their integration tools.
So, Coming to the important topics for GATE now
Important Topics for Manufacturing & Production Engineering :
- Casting
- Welding
- Metal cutting
- Measurement and Metrology
- Forming
Good resources for Manufacturing & Production Engineering :
- Manufacturing Science by Ghosh & Malik
- Manufacturing Technology – Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 by P.N. Rao
- Manufacturing Engineering & Technology by Serope Kalpakjian and Steven R. Schmid.
Manufacturing and Production Engineering is a topic which needs to be studied from various places. Hence, One resource may not suffice. So, Casting and Welding should be done from Manufacturing Technology P.N. Rao. Also, rest can be done well from other sources. So, it depends on every individual.Hence, Some students feel Manufacturing Science by Ghosh & Malik is sufficient for all the topics.
Also, What I would suggest to you would be to go through all the resources you have, come up with a study plan and then start off with the preparation. Else, you may end up wasting a lot of time. So, If you lack time for preparation then this may not be the best approach for you.
What to do if you have less time for GATE preparation?
Also, Help here means get someone who can help you out with your preparation in terms of helping you prepare a study plan. One who can clear your doubts and someone who can help you analyse you test results. Also, maybe you should get a personal tutor who could help you out. This can help you quicken and easy up the process of your preparation for GATE. Also, remember that there is no substitute to practice. So,that is something that you need to do, without exception. All that a good professor can do for you is make the process of studying for you easier.

Thank you so much for providing such a valuable information.
Thank you for sharing such valuable information. I recently found this website where one can register their company if they are a forging company. Forging-Process is a forging directory company where one can register themselves free of cost. Once listed, one can get visible to potential customers and hence can get a lot of business.

Hi,
Great post as well as valuable, and i think this gonna helps students a lot like us as i am writing a blog so this really helps me out a lot.
Keep it up.
Thanks for sharing.
